Recruiting Policies and Procedures for Undergraduate Students
To ensure fairness among students and strong relationships with our recruiting partners, the Recruiting Office has created the following set of job-seeker policies and guidelines. Please review and follow them carefully as you participate in the recruiting process. Your success and Bentley’s reputation depends on the professional and ethical conduct set forth in these guidelines.
On-Campus interviewing is a privilege provided to all students. Each candidate is expected to attend all scheduled interviews. You may decline the interview after an employer has selected you for an interview, or you may withdraw from an interview you have signed up for, as long as it is within the sign up period. The interview schedule will close at 11:59 pm, 2 business days prior to the interview day. To cancel an interview after the sign up period has closed, because of extenuating circumstances, you must speak with a staff member in the Recruiting Department by calling 781.891.3423. Leaving a message is not sufficient. Cancellations may result in the suspension of the candidate’s access to BentleyLink.
If a candidate is late for an interview, it will be at the discretion of the employer as to whether the interview with the candidate will still be conducted. Candidates should plan to arrive at the Recruiting Office in LaCava Room 205 approximately 15 minutes prior to their scheduled interview time.
Failure to honor an interview appointment is considered by all parties to be a serious breach of courtesy and ethics. It jeopardizes Bentley’s relationship with employers and it impacts fellow classmates who could have interviewed for the position. All “no-show” applicants are required to meet with the Recruiting Director or the Employer Relations Manager in order to discuss the situation. An email apology letter must be submitted to the employer within 24 hours of the missed interview time. A determination will be made as to whether or not you will be able to continue to participate in the recruiting program. Invalid explanations and/or repeat behavior will result in immediate suspension from all services provided by the Recruiting Office. Our office reserves the right to suspend your recruiting privileges and, if necessary, make a referral to the judicial board.
If you are uncertain as to whether or not you should accept an offer, please consult with a Career Development Advisor before contacting the employer. Once a decision is made and a full-time offer has been accepted, it is considered a firm commitment and students will no longer be eligible to apply to full-time opportunities on BentleyLink as they should ethically not continue to interview. If you are scheduled for an on-campus interview and have accepted a position, please contact the Recruiting Office by calling 781.891.3423. Students should notify other companies where they have been interviewing and inform these companies that they have accepted another offer of employment.
For those positions that you decline, it is strongly recommended that you speak with the employer and follow up with a professional letter communicating your appreciation for their offer, declining the offer graciously, and expressing the difficulty of making this decision. Thank the employer once again for their interest. This may allow the firm to consider other Bentley candidates for the position and may also represent a networking opportunity for you in the future.
Reneging on a full time or internship offer is never permitted or condoned. This is considered a serious violation of our recruiting policies and will result in immediate suspension of all recruiting privileges. The student’s BentleyLink account will be de-activated, and violators will be required to meet with the Director of Recruiting. Future recruiting privileges will be determined after this meeting. In addition, any company that reneges on an offer to a student will be re-evaluated by the Director of Recruiting to determine if they will be eligible to participate in the recruiting program.
If you falsify documents or misrepresent yourself to any employer, whether via our campus programs or in your independent job search, Career Development has the right to rescind your privileges to use our services or programs. Please be advised that employers have the right to terminate your employment or withdraw a job offer for misrepresentation. In addition to concerns of ethics and integrity, many employers verify information submitted by candidates for employment.
In many situations, after an offer has been made and accepted, there are still steps in the process you must follow. This can include providing names for references or taking a drug test. If you have accepted an offer, you accept the responsibility to finish all steps in the process, as the company has stopped seeking candidates based on your acceptance. If you do not fulfill your obligations or fail to show for a drug test, this reflects poorly on your candidacy. This can result in the company not hiring you and will result in your privileges to use BentleyLink Career Development being suspended.
When classes are canceled, on-campus interviews will not be held. The Recruiting office will contact you to reschedule your on-campus interviews.
When classes are delayed, it is difficult to gain access to campus because of snow removal. The first on-campus interview will begin at or after 11 a.m. Any interviews scheduled before 11 a.m. will be rescheduled for a later time that day or another day.

The Bentley University Recruiting Office works diligently to prevent fraudulent companies from posting jobs or internships for Bentley students. We have criteria we consider before a job or internship is posted on BentleyLink. However, it is possible for a “scam” company to occasionally get by us. Additionally, you may be contacted by companies outside of BentleyLink and therefore we ask you to take a moment to read the information below to educate yourself on possible ‘scam’ scenarios that may occur.
- We exclude postings from companies that ask Bentley students to pay any funds up front as part of the hiring process so NEVER wire funds via Western Union, Money gram or any other service.
- View the company website to ensure it is a legitimate site.
- Check the contact email is coming from a company email address, not yahoo or gmail etc.
- Never cash a Postal Order or Money Order, even from the U.S. post office and send part of the proceeds to a third party. This is a common scam utilizing forged documents, and you will be responsible for the full amount of the money order.
- Never give out financial information (bank account number, social security number, etc.) as part of applying for a job. Anyone who has your account information can use it.
- Is the pay performance based or commission only? Then ask for the performance metrics or commission percentage in writing.
- If it seems 'too good to be true’, then best to investigate a bit more.
- Speak with your career adviser if you have any questions during your interview process.
Should you have questions about the legitimacy of a company or posting, please contact the Recruiting Department at 781.891.3423 or by email immediately. By using the BentleyLink recruiting system, it is understood that all students will abide by the Recruiting Program Policies we have provided. Violations may be referred to the university judicial system.
All current Bentley students who study abroad during the Fall or Spring semester will continue to have the option of applying for positions on BentleyLink. If the employer is coming on-campus to conduct interviews, our office will coordinate a Skype interview for you. Please be aware that not all employers will agree to Skype interviews. It is ultimately their choice or their internal corporate policy to not offer Skype interviews.
If you are selected for an on-campus interview, the Recruiting Office will reach out to you via email to inform you that you have been selected to interview via Skype. The email will include instructions to sign up for an interview time, via BentleyLink, and to provide our office with your Skype ID. In addition, we include some helpful tips for your interview. Once we receive your Skype ID, we will program your info into our office Skype contact list. The employer, who will be conducting the interviews on campus, will be provided an iPad programmed to contact you at your scheduled interview time. Please note, if you do not wish to interview with the employer, you may simply decline the interview via BentleyLink.
All Skype interviews are subject to the same recruiting policies provided below. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these guidelines. Bentley University’s Recruiting Department provides students with the opportunity to participate in the Recruiting Program, interview on-campus or via Skype, with a variety of employers, and apply to many jobs and internships which are not on-campus interviews. Use of our system, BentleyLink, is a privilege for Bentley students and one we want all of our students to enjoy and from which to benefit. This privilege comes with the expectation that professionalism, integrity and ethical behavior will be demonstrated by Bentley students in all manner of communication and work effort with employers, Bentley’s recruiting staff and career advisers throughout the employment process. Violation of this expectation may result in suspension or termination of the privilege to use BentleyLink.
Definition of Employer Interview Decisions
Invited: The employer has accepted your application for an interview. You may sign up for an interview time (as soon as possible) in BentleyLink for one of the available displayed time slots. NOTE: Oftentimes there are multiple interview schedules; scroll through the list to find a desirable time. If the only open time is not convenient for you, it is your responsibility to contact the Recruiting Department at 781.891.3423 to discuss possible options available to you.
Alternate: The employer has accepted you as an alternate candidate for an interview. Alternates will be contacted by the Recruiting Department if a time slot opens up.
Not Invited: The employer has declined your application for an interview.
Pending: The employer has yet to make a decision on your application.
Student Statement of Responsibility
As a student, it's your responsibility to:
- Provide accurate information on majors, minors, GPA, and employment eligibility
- Provide current and reliable contact information for the Recruiting Office and employers
- Respond appropriately to communication from the Recruiting Office and employers
- Adhere to schedules
- Thoroughly research organizations prior to interviewing and accepting positions
- Notify the Recruiting Office immediately if you encounter questionable practices or irregularities in the employment process
- Notify the Recruiting Office upon acceptance of a job offer, withdraw from the interview process, and notify all employers with whom you are interviewing
- Consider acceptance of employment as a commitment to that employer; Reneging on an accepted offer is not condoned by the Recruiting Office and may result in loss of service to the student. If you have any hesitations about an offer, please consult with your career adviser.
