Wins Northeast-10 Conference Championship for Using More Zero-Emissions Electricity than any Other School

Meredith Mason

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Bentley University as the Northeast-10 Conference champion of the 2016-17 College and University Green Power Challenge for using more green power than any other school in the conference.

Bentley beat its conference rivals by using 25 million kilowatt-hours of green power, representing 100 percent of the school’s annual electricity usage. Bentley's green power use of 25 million kilowatt-hours equals the electricity use of nearly 2,300 average U.S. homes per year.

Green power is zero-emissions electricity generated from renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, eligible biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. Using green power encourages the development of renewable energy capacity and reduces one’s carbon footprint.

Bentley University’s Office of Sustainability integrates sustainability into the experience of Bentley students. As part of its green power efforts, the university is procuring renewable energy certificates to support the development of domestic wind power. Named one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the country by the Princeton Review, Bentley has committed to carbon-neutrality by the year 2030.
