Spotlight: Richard Swanson, P ’82

If you were on campus in the ’70s and ’80s, you surely noticed Richard Swanson, P ’82 walking to class, a head above everyone else.

The distinctively lanky professor with a PhD taught in the Math Department. He also loved challenging students to games of O-U-T on the basketball court.

“I eventually beat them all, much to their dismay,” recalled Swanson, who died in June at age 90.

Alison Davis-Blake, PhD, a recognized national leader in business education, has been appointed the eighth president of Bentley University. She was on campus in early February for an introduction to faculty, students and staff.

Most recently, as dean at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, Davis-Blake oversaw curricular and co-curricular innovations that improved the student experience, increased applications by 32 percent, drew substantial media attention and served as a model for other business schools.
