Millennials know that social media is more than just socializing; it’s about using digital tools to allow us to crowdsource, brainstorm ideas, connect globally and solve problems in different ways, according to Fortune. Beyond revolutionizing organizations and the way we do business in general, millennials also are using their status as the first digitally native generation to revolutionize the way we find jobs altogether.

In Bentley University’s PreparedU survey, 61 percent of recent college graduates gave their peers a “C” grade for preparation for their first jobs. Still, there are plenty of millennials who are more than prepared to land those jobs. And to do so, millennials regularly circumvent archaic old recruitment systems, turning to social media like Twitter to get job interviews and "tricking out" their LinkedIn profiles, according to TIME, with inbound marketing best practices like enhanced SEO keywords.

Good thing, because FastCompany argues that resumes are now completely worthless, citing a study published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology which found that a person’s Facebook profile reveals more about the kind of employee they’ll be than an IQ test. Social media offers a wealth of information, and Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts are now hiring managers' best friends. "You learn a lot about someone by looking at what they believe worthy of sharing," said author Tim Stevens.

That's not always a good thing, however: employers still believe communication skills to be one of the millennial generation's biggest skills gaps. They cite a need to wean millennials from "an emoticon reality," according to FOX Business, and to develop other interpersonal soft skills that they  will need on the job "IRL" (in real life).

For millennial job seekers looking to revamp their online presence to better reflect their "IRL" values, personality, strengths, and skills, BusinessNews Daily has a handy in-depth guide about how to use social media for job hunting success, conveniently broken out with specific tips for each of the most popular social media channels — in addition to 8 reasons you didn't get the job.
