Bentley junior Jenna Cavicchia is one of five college undergraduates from campuses across the country to win $10,000 from the Liberty Mutual Responsible Scholars^TM Scholarship program.  Cavicchia was recognized for her work with the Mmofra Trom Bead Project. She is the second student from Bentley to receive this award; in 2009 Vinay Gokaldas '10 was a Responsible Scholars Scholarship recipient.

Bentley kicked off the 2011 RecycleMania Tournament in February. During the eight-week national recycling contest, Bentley competes against approximately 630 schools from across the country in the following recycling and waste reduction categories:

Grand Champion: Highest diversion rate (tons of material recycled compared to tons trashed)

Per Capita Classic: Largest amount of recyclables per person

Joshua Boger, founder and former CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, will speak at Bentley on Monday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m.in Wilder Pavilion. Following his address, "Biotechnology in the 21^st Century," a reception will be held.

Bentley University students will gather for the 14^th annual Bentley Business Bowl (BBB) on February 26, 2011, on the Bentley campus, 175 Forest Street in Waltham. During the university-wide business case competition, student teams will analyze cases that present ethical, business, accounting or auditing dilemmas.

The Distinguished Speakers Series, "Service Process Excellence: Enhancing the Customer's Experience", presents Frank Piller, chaired professor of management and director of the Technology & Innovation Management Group at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. His address, "Open Innovation and Services: Services for Open Innovation and Open Innovation for Services," will be held on Monday, February 14 from 2:10 to 3:25 p.m.

December 2010 marked the launch of Bentley Give 'N Go, The Sustainable Move-Out Project. Organized by a group of Bentley students, the two-week program aims to reduce the amount of useable goods that are thrown away by residential students moving out at the end of each semester. 

"The program was extremely well executed by the student team and I was really impressed with their work ethic and organization," says Amanda King, Bentley manager of sustainability.

Bentley female students were on hand to meet mentors from the Network of Executive Women (NEW) at the second annual kick-off event for the NEW Horizons College Mentoring Program, held this fall at the Marriot Hotel in Newton, Mass.

The NEW Horizons Mentoring Group aims to create a mentoring program that is sustainable and provides value to the student, the mentor and the consumer packaged goods and retail industry. This year the program has doubled in the number of mentees and now includes MBA students.

Bentley semi-finalists Shaun Boedicker and Puja Shah

One of the four Bentley teams that competed in the Eastern Regional Moot Tournament of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association (AMCA) in November advanced to the national tournament slated for January 2010 in New Orleans. The advancing team of Bentley seniors Puja Shah and Shaun Boedicker was among 40 teams that competed in the regional competition. The Bentley team of senior Monil Kothari and junior Will Markow has been placed on a reserve list of teams at the nationals.

Bentley Assistant Professor of Geology David Szymanski was elected chair of the Geological Society of America (GSA) Geology and Public Policy Committee for a one-year term that will begin in July 2011. The announcement was made at the GSA annual meeting recently held in Denver, CO. He is currently serving as chair-elect for 2010-2011.

In the recently released College Sustainability Report Card 2011, an independent evaluation of sustainability in campus operations and endowment practices published by the Sustainable Endowments Institute, a Cambridge-based nonprofit organization, Bentley scored B+.
