Beyond the Classroom: Faculty in Print
August 26, 2025

Bentley faculty research takes many forms: art and articles, essays and editing, and of course, books. This fall in conjunction with the RSM Gallery exhibit of Bentley EMS faculty member Brian Wilson’s research on artist’s creative practice through portraiture, sculpture and interviews, we’re pleased to present recent research by Bentley faculty in fields ranging from AI Ethics to Black Activism, from the First Amendment to Foreign Policy to French Cinema, and from Strategic Leadership to Retirement and creating a life that works!
EMS Faculty member Brian Wilson’s photo-ethnographic project Why We Make foregrounds the motivations of creative professionals and documents their work in various disciplines. Artists often have an innate sense that we see and experience the world in a different way and a persistent need to share these experiences with others. Portraits, interview excerpts, and the featured work from each of the nine participating artists will be presented in the RSM Gallery.
Sandworks, a body of sculptural work by Brian Wilson, is also featured in Why We Make. This project brings attention to the relationship society has with sand. The forms are created using glass and concrete, two building materials that have very different surfaces but are both derived from the same building block…sand. The sculptures have familiar forms that reference architecture, as the construction industry is the largest industrial consumer of sand.
