What we did on YOUR summer vacation!
August 19, 2026
Welcome back, Falcons! When you first come into the library, you might notice some changes…
The back reading rooms on both the main level and the upper level of the library have been completely redesigned. These rooms have long been designated as our “silent” study spaces, and now the furniture in them will reflect that designation as well. Rooms once furnished with tables and soft seating have been reimagined with individual study carrels designed for students who want to focus without distraction. We've even added doors to help keep the noise down!
You might be wondering where the tables and comfortable seating disappeared to, but don’t fret as they are still in the library! The area of the library where our periodicals are shelved has been transformed into a more relaxing place to take a study break. This is where you’ll find our community puzzle, the chess board, and comfortable couches and chairs. There are also those big tables you love to sit and spread out at with a few friends to study and chat (quietly obviously…we are still a library!). You’ll find even more of those large tables on the upper level.
Speaking of the upper level, the landing at the top of our main staircase has also been transformed! With the individual carrels having been moved, in this space you will find more couches and comfortable seating. Additionally, there are two new Hush Pods! Hush Pods are small office pods that reduce noise. One is configured for individual use for a Zoom meeting or interview while the other can accommodate two people for a meeting. Hush Pods can be booked up to two weeks in advance using the EMS system. Reservations are limited to one per day for up to two hours.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR SUMMER REFRESH
- There is only one print room on the main floor. Two black and white printers and two color printers are now available in the bigger room 102. What were once print rooms are now cozy nooks to tuck into and get away from the crowds.
- Any print book we receive at the library will now spend its first 90 days living in our New Arrivals section, which can be found next to the Popular Reading. Hopefully this makes it easier to discover all our newer items and not just those designated as more leisure reading.
- Popular DVDs are now shelved by genre. If you don’t quite know what you want to watch, but are going for a certain vibe, you can now browse our DVDs by genre. If you are looking for something specific and are unsure where to look, search our catalogue and it will list where each item is located. Don’t forget, we now circulate DVD players as well, for those titles not available streaming!
- We added a membership to the Concord Museum. Reserve a pass to get a discount on up to 4 admissions.
- New Nintendo Switch games have been added to our growing video game collection. Don’t have a Switch? Don’t worry, we have Switch Kits available in our Library of Things to check our for 7 days.
- We have long maintained a community puzzle as a way to take study breaks, but this semester we are adding a Puzzle give and go. Have a puzzle you’ve already completed? Stop by and switch it out with one from our collection. Or you can just stop by and grab a puzzle to take with you; no need to check it out or return it!
