Save Yourself Some Stress: 6 Library Tips to Know Now

Hello Falcons! Whether you're new to Bentley or returning for another semester, taking a few minutes to learn about these library resources now can make your life easier later. Here are six things every Falcon should know before the semester gets busy. 

1. Set Up Printing Before You Need It 

Save yourself the stress of trying to figure out how to print something 10 minutes before class starts - get connected to Falcon Printing now! The printing system was upgraded over the summer, which means that all returning students will need to re-connect as well. Installation instructions are available on the Falcon Printing website. You'll be happy to know that you can now print from mobile devices!

2. Prepare to Book Study Rooms and Hush Pods Like a Pro

Need a space for a group project, focused study session, or Zoom call? The library has 20 group study rooms and 2 hush pods that can be reserved by students. There are two ways to reserve rooms and pods in advance:

• Download the Direct Spaces app (available on both iOS and Android) to book a group study room from your mobile device. 
• Make room reservations online via the University’s EMS website.

3. Pick the Right Study Spot: Navigating the Quiet Areas of the Library

Looking for the perfect study spot? The library offers three study zones: Silent, Quiet, and Collaborative. When choosing a place to study, relax, or work on a project, check your zone and be considerate of your fellow students. View zone locations and details on the library’s Study Spaces page.

4. Get Free Access to Top Business News Sources

As a Bentley student, you get free access to premium news subscriptions, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, Bloomberg.com, and The Economist. Visit our Current News page for information about creating/using personal accounts on each platform.

5. Check the Course Reserves for Textbooks and Other Required Class Materials

Before purchasing a textbook, paying to download an article, or subscribing to a streaming service for a film, check the library first! Your professor may have placed your class materials on Course Reserve:

Here’s how to find course reserves:

• Library Search: Use Course Reserves Search to search by course name, course code, or instructor's name to see what hardcopy items (e.g. books) your professor has put on reserve at the library for your class.
• Online, electronic course reserves (e.g. PDF articles, ebooks) can be found in the “Resources” module of the Brightspace site for your class.

Even if something hasn’t been put on reserve specifically for your class, we may have a copy in the stacks that you can borrow or have access to an electronic version via one of our many online databases. It’s worth checking the library first before you purchase anything. Use Library Search on our homepage to get started or ask a librarian for assistance.
