What is Your Story? Events to Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.

I was a girl when I heard Martin Luther King Jr.’s "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered in August 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The March on Washington and the speech have become as familiar to Americans as Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. One can say that both speeches changed the course of history. King’s speech changed the course of my life.

During the spring semester the normal library hours are:

Sunday
10:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m.

Monday–Thursday
7:30 a.m.–12:00 a.m.

Public Domain Day

New Year’s Day is often celebrated as a way to recover from the previous night, but January 1st is also known as Public Domain Day. It is an event that is often overlooked despite its significance in education and innovation.

On January 1st, 2024, most works that were published in 1928 have now entered the public domain. When a creative work like a book, film, or song are developed, they naturally are protected by copyright law. This generally means that no one can reproduce or take ownership of the work without the permission of the owner.

Special Library Hours: Monday, January 8 – Sunday, January 21

We hope everyone enjoyed a great winter break! For the next two weeks (January 8-21) the library will be open with reduced hours until spring classes start. Please note that the library is also closed on Thursday, January 11, for a staff professional development day and on Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Winter Break Closing: December 23–January 7

The library will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024. Please anticipate longer turnaround times for any items you request or questions you submit while we are closed.
