Economics-Finance

You’ll learn basic principles of economics and how organizations apply them to finite resources, like cash, time and labor. Then you’ll study how companies manage their money. As an Economics-Finance (Eco-Fi) major, you’ll be exposed to everything from commercial and investment banking to mortgage markets and accounting. Many Economics-Finance alumni work in banks or government roles; others continue their studies through graduate work in business, law and related fields.

An accelerated BS/MS program is available to select, high-performing students in this major. If you’re accepted, you can earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in four years of study.

Monetary Economics (EC441)

This course examines how monetary policy impacts the major financial markets domestically and internationally.  Students evaluate the impact of money on both spot and forward exchange rates which is then applied to various real-world cases, such as the EMU, currency boards and exchange rate crises. The course focuses on some of the major issues faced by policymakers, with particular emphasis on some of the current debates of U.S. monetary policy.

Emphasizing Equity

An Economics-Finance major and social justice activist, Kimiya Kim ’22 says she never expected to find a course at Bentley “geared toward both my passions.” So she was understandably “ecstatic” this spring when Meghan Esson, an assistant professor of Economics, debuted The Economics of Race and Gender (EC317) — an entire class dedicated to exploring how race, class, gender and ethnicity influence economic outcomes in America.
