Recycling numbers are in!
Bentley Recycled 17.78 tons of material in September 2009. This is a 3.91-ton increase over the amount of material recycled during September 2008. Keep up the good work!

Coming Soon!
A new, monthly E-Newsletter will be sent to students, faculty, and staff. The newsletter is a joint effort between Bentley Sustainability and the Green Society in attempts to provide the community with more information on day-to-day sustainability efforts.

New Exterior Recycling Bins
New exterior recycling bins will be installed across the campus during the next several months.

Recycling Audits
Bentley Sustainability will be performing recycling audits in each of the academic and administrative buildings to determine the appropriate locations for new, permanent recycling bins.

Solar Wall Installation
Get down to the Dana Center and check out the newly installed 3,000 solar wall!  The solar wall was installed on the southern external wall of the building (facing the Dana Center parking lot) during August and September 2009.

The solar wall is made of perforated wall material and is installed several inches from the exterior wall of the building to create an air cavity. The solar wall, which traps heat from the sun, is hooked up to a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit. When the HVAC unit calls for outdoor air, the air is pulled through the solar wall and is heated in the process. The hot air rises up the air cavity created between the solar wall and the building's exterior wall and enters the HVAC unit. By providing the unit with pre-heated air, less energy is required to warm the air to room temperature.

This project is estimated to save 116,000 kWh of energy per year.

Meet your new Manager of Sustainability!
Amanda Navarroli, MEM, LEED AP started at Bentley on July 1, 2009. Navarroli will be leading Bentley University in setting and achieving sustainability goals aimed at reducing the University’s environmental impacts. Navarroli will convene university-wide stakeholders to develop campus sustainability policies that address the most pressing global environmental issues (such as climate change), while fostering entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging innovative environmental problem solving at a local level.
