The Confidence to Imagine More
Being a first-generation student means carrying both pride and responsibility.
In my family, education has always been a priority because we were taught that knowledge is power and that a degree can open doors that once felt closed. Earning my degree made me proud, and it also made my family and my heritage proud. It represents the sacrifices that came before me and the opportunities I hope to create for future generations.
Bentley truly felt like home to me. It welcomed me with open arms and became the bigger brother or sister I didn’t know I needed. The relationships I built as a student continue to influence me today. Through the Bentley Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Center (BSLCE), Brian Shea and the BSLCE team, fellow volunteers, professors and campus leaders, I found a community where I felt supported and encouraged. They showed me the power of leading with service, showing up for others and building genuine connections.

Bentley gave me the confidence to imagine more for myself, and I learned to step outside my comfort zone. Those experiences helped me recognize something I hadn’t fully seen before: I belonged in rooms that once felt out of reach.
My first-generation experience at Bentley taught me to approach challenges with persistence, humility and a willingness to ask questions. There were times when I had to figure things out as I went, but that made me more resourceful and intentional about seeking support. It also taught me that we are capable of more than we think when we have the drive, discipline and willingness to work hard.
I am grateful for every success and proud of what I have achieved, but each accomplishment also raises the bar for what is next. I am motivated to pursue goals I once imagined were out of reach and to become someone I once thought I could not be.

That mindset continues to guide me professionally. Early in my career, I knew I was on the right path when my work ethic and knowledge were recognized by leaders who invited me to help mentor new hires. I earned a promotion at a leading tech company, an accomplishment that reflects not only hard work and resilience, but also the support and opportunities that helped me get here.
And now my journey continues. I’m especially excited to pursue my MBA at Bentley, returning to the place that first helped me see what was possible for my future.
As I expand my skills and pursue opportunities where I can lead and make a difference, I also want to stay connected to my community and support students, especially first-generation students who may be looking for guidance.
I hope one day to provide the same encouragement and opportunities I was given. If I can help even one person feel less alone in their journey and more confident pursuing their education or goals, that would be a meaningful impact. I want people to know that continuing their education, pursuing their interests and passions, and going after their goals can open doors they may not yet be able to see.
After all, that’s what Bentley did for me.
