This course introduces the fundamentals of financial markets, trading signals, risk management, and performance measurement. Students will learn how to use software to backtest trading strategies, analyze performance results, and make data-driven improvements to their approaches. Through hands-on projects, they will discover why some trading ideas succeed while others fail, and how professional traders rely on evidence rather than intuition when making decisions.
Students will gain experience with paper trading and real-time market simulations, monitoring and adjusting strategies as market conditions evolve. No prior programming or trading experience is required. The course provides a practical introduction to how traders think about markets, financial instruments, order execution, risk, liquidity, news, and portfolio exposure.
Using stocks, bonds, currencies, ETFs, and commodities, students will participate in market simulations, maintain mock trading journals, conduct scenario analyses, and develop a final risk-managed trading strategy presentation. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of the principles and disciplines that underpin successful trading and investment decision-making.
Important: This course is designed solely for educational purposes. All trading activities are conducted in simulated environments and do not constitute personal investment advice, financial planning, or recommendations to buy or sell any security.
