Stanton Research Professor of Economics Dhaval Dave was awarded the 2021 Georgescu-Roegen Prize by the Southern Economic Association for his paper, “Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs, Opioid Abuse, and Crime,” which was published in the Southern Economic Journal. This is the second time that Dhaval earned the award, having first won in 2013 for his paper, “Impact of Direct‐to‐Consumer Advertising on Pharmaceutical Prices and Demand.”

In addition to naming this annual award, the Southern Economic Association also recognizes the runner-up paper, which Dhaval also won for his paper, “The contagion externality of a superspreading event: The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and COVID-19.”

Janis Gogan, professor of Information and Process Management, was named a Fellow of the North American Case Research Association (NACRA). Over the past 31 years, only 36 individuals have been honored with this distinction, which recognizes “members who have distinguished themselves through their life-long achievement in case research, writing and teaching.”

In announcing Gogan’s selection during the organization’s annual conference (held virtually in 2021), NACRA member Anne Lawrence noted Gogan’s prior service as NACRA president (2015) and vice president (2013) and as a member of the Case Research Journal editorial board, and acknowledged her “special expertise in ways in which field research can have a ‘double impact’ by providing the basis for both teaching cases and traditional academic articles. This has been of special value to early career scholars who must meet demanding research expectations to achieve tenure and promotion.”
