Adamian Renovation: January 2026 Highlights

Welcome back to campus and to a true New England winter! While the rest of campus was relatively quiet over the break, Adamian was a hive of activity. And though the recent storm has added another layer of complexity (as well as ice and snow) to the project, our construction crew has plenty of experience in working through what January dishes out.

Here’s the latest progress to date and next steps.

Construction progress:

  • Foundation and footing work is ongoing, creating the base that will support the new addition in front of the building stretching toward the library and the quad
  • Underground plumbing is being installed in the 1987 wing (on the north side, closest to the road near Lot 8), preparing the space for new walls and floors

Important site utilities have been adjusted to support construction:

  • The main water line has been relocated outside the addition's footprint
  • A temporary electrical transformer is now installed to provide power
  • A conduit for the emergency generator, which is located on the road side of Morison and provides emergency power for multiple buildings on the quad, has been extended into the construction zone

Upcoming phases:

  • Continued excavation and foundation work for the new addition
  • Construction of stair and elevator cores, which form the vertical backbone of the building
  • Steel installation will begin, starting inside the existing building and moving outward into the addition
  • Interior mechanical, electrical, and plumbing “rough-in” work will continue—installing wiring, piping, and ductwork that will later be hidden behind walls and ceilings

Here are some recent pictures from the site:

The yellow "walls" are temporary rigid insulation, separating the interior spaces from the outside.

The square dug into the ground is the "footing" that will eventually house an elevator.

Still one of the best innovations, especially in winter: indoor plumbing.
