My name is Caroline Sheedy, though I’m known to most as Cal. I’ve had that nickname for as long as I can remember, so I’m not quite sure where it came from, but it sure did stick. I graduated from Bentley with a BS in Finance way back in 2009 but upon graduation got hired for a marketing position at a great company called Vistaprint. I’ve been in marketing ever since. I have experience in both email and direct mail, but currently focus on the direct mail side of things.
My role in marketing is very quantitative and data driven. My original take on marketing was that it was all about creative writing and art skills, of which I had little to none of. I had no idea there was a data side to things. My finance background has helped me tremendously in my role and I have learned a ton about marketing along the way. But I wanted to fill the academic void and learn more about marketing theories and strategies as well as learn from other people about their marketing experiences as well as their career experience. I am also at the point in my career where managing people is on the horizon, and I wanted to understand more about myself and how I can become a great leader and a great manager. So I decided to go back to school to learn about marketing, myself, and hear the experiences of others. Bentley was a natural choice for me to continue my studies. I didn’t even look at other places because I knew Bentley had what I wanted based on my experience as an undergrad. So far, I’ve been pretty satisfied with my decision. I’ve had a great experience -- I’ve learned from great professors and networked with great people. I even had the opportunity to take my studies to the Middle East in a Global Business Experience course (GBE) over Spring Break this year!
Outside of work and school, I enjoy being active. I’m an avid CrossFitter and a former runner looking to get back into it. I’m a huge Boston Bruins fan and a current season ticket holder. I love traveling and experiencing new cultures. I have a trip planned in the fall to Austria, Germany and Switzlerand, and I can’t wait to enjoy local food and drink! I’m excited to share my MBA experience so far. It hasn’t all been fun and easy, and I’m looking forward to communicating the good and the bad to readers.
