Congratulations, Bentley Retirees!

Working remotely and maintaining a safe physical distance has made it more difficult to celebrate members of our community. This summer, we bid a fond farewell to 44 faculty and staff who retired from the university. With thanks and congratulations — and to make sure we stay in touch — we dedicate this issue of the Bentley Buzz to these valued former colleagues. Their own dedication has helped make Bentley a special place to work and study.

Thanks and best wishes to ...

“I enjoyed working with the Information and Process Management faculty and learned so much while I was there. Bentley is a ‘family’ of dedicated, energetic and friendly faculty, staff and students. The campus is a refreshing place, beautifully maintained, and promotes creativity, diversity and respect throughout. I look forward to returning, once the ‘new normal’ is established, to visit with colleagues."

Doreen Floyd
Student Affairs
Years of Service: 34

Retirement Plans
“LOL. Not sure this is truly retirement, but more so an opportunity to try something new, or something familiar at a new place. While I will miss working with this amazing team, the ability to think about work in terms of personal values, strengths and how you can make meaning in this world was an opportunity that does not come around often.”

A Bentley Memory
“There are so many things that could be talked about, but what continues to make me smile is the transformation of student life. The experience for undergrads and graduate students is so unbelievably different from when I started. For that to happen, it goes beyond Student Affairs. The emphasis on teamwork and the application of classroom learning to real-life experiences, the collaboration with Facilities when it came time to re-imagine campus spaces. Everyone who works at Bentley is committed to the student experience. We may have different approaches or lenses from which we operate, but the end goal is one of shared enthusiasm and enrichment.

“The people who work at Bentley are simply incredible — faculty and staff alike. As one of my colleagues recently indicated: ‘You may have a bad hour, but you never have a bad day at Bentley.’”

“We have a home on a lake in Maine, so will be able to spend more time there with family, friends and grandchildren. Will do some traveling when the pandemic is over. I love to exercise, so I’ll devote time every day to kayaking, swimming, snow skiing, snow shoeing and, of course, walking. I also may  volunteer my time doing something I enjoy.”

A Bentley Memory
“I’ve met so many members of the community through the fun things put on by Campus Connections, trips, games, aerobics and yoga. I worked with wonderful people, day in and day out. It’s my Bentley family that I will miss the most and remember the most.”

“For now, I am looking forward to spending as much time as I can with my wonderful husband, Dave, and the new love of our lives, grandson Rocco! I don’t know what adventures lie ahead after that, but I am sure they will be exciting!”

A Bentley Memory
“I have so many fond memories. For the last 20 years, I have run the Alternative Spring Break trip and met so many wonderful students, staff and homeowners.

“What I will remember most and miss the most is the incredible group of people I had the absolute pleasure to work with at the BSLCE. The staff and students are the most caring, thoughtful change- makers I have had the good fortune to meet, and they are like family to me. I will miss them dearly, but know that I have made some lifelong friendships. Thank you Bentley, it was a great run and I wish you the very best ❤️.”
