Why Sam Bor Took the Leap as a First-Time Presenter at the Bentley Community Learning Conference

As Bentley invites faculty and staff to submit proposals for the 2026 Community Learning Conference, Sam Bor’s story highlights the impact of curiosity and collaboration.

Join colleagues July 20–22 for in-person and virtual sessions, and submit your session proposal by May 21 at 5 p.m.

Sam Bor presented "Story Circles: Tool for Community Dialogue" with Susannah Marcucci as well as "Beyond the Shield : Narrative Change, Decolonization and Higher Education" in collaboration with Nana Adu. Here he describes why he took the plunge as a first time BCLC presenter.

What motivated you to submit a proposal?

Shared interests with my co-presenters led us to believe story circles and decolonization research would be valuable.

Did you have any concerns before presenting?

I was nervous about reception, but participants were deeply engaged.

What did you gain personally or professionally?

The sessions led to additional facilitation opportunities and strong interest in intercultural competency.

What would you say to a colleague unsure they’re ready?

Go for it. The Bentley community is hungry for your ideas.

Most meaningful moment?

Collaborating with my co-presenters.
