What is the International Peer Mentor Program?
The International Peer Mentor Program was created to help international students become acclimated to Bentley University. New students have the opportunity to work with a Peer Mentor, whom they meet during International Student Orientation. Peer Mentors will assist new students with practical matters such as getting a phone, opening a bank account, and understanding local transportation. After the first Peer Mentor meeting during International Student Orientation, Peer Mentors will stay in touch with their mentees throughout their first semester and check in on their social, emotional, and academic progress, while they are adjusting to life at Bentley and in the United States.
What are International Peer Mentors?
An International Peer Mentor is an enthusiastic and empathetic current Bentley student who supports first-year international students as they transition to life at Bentley University and in the United States. The Center for International Students and Scholars (CISS) hires mentors for this paid position. Each mentor will be matched with 10-20 incoming international undergraduate students and will provide guidance and support throughout the Fall semester.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Participate in Bentley's Fall International Student Orientation.
- Offer guidance on navigating campus life, academic expectations, and U.S. culture.
- Assist mentees with practical matters such as setting up a SIM card, opening a bank account, and understanding local transportation.
- Maintain weekly contact with mentees via text, messaging apps, or email.
- Meet in person with mentees at least once a month.
- Submit a brief monthly check-in report to CISS.
- Attend trainings and workshops as needed throughout the semester.
Qualifications Include:
- Must have completed at least two semesters at Bentley.
- Must have spent a minimum of one year living outside the United States.
