This fall, the Bentley Essential Studio Team (BEST) worked with Breakthrough Greater Boston, which offers tuition-free academic programming for school- and college-age students. Assignments included updating the organization’s website and creating a style guide.
From logos to brochures to websites, good graphic design is essential in telling an organization’s story. Essential and expensive, sometimes prohibitively so for nonprofit organizations with modest budgets.
“A lot of nonprofits scramble to figure out how to properly spend money on marketing,” explains Michael Goldberg (pictured), a graphic designer himself who teaches in Bentley’s Experience Design Department.
This fall, funded by a service–learning faculty development grant, Goldberg and his students launched a graphic design studio to serve the niche. Following an agency–client model, students fill roles such as designer, art director, copywriter, creative director and production artist. Says Goldberg: “We provide quality services and these nonprofits can put the money back into other important needs.”
