A group of Bentley University students teamed up with nonprofit Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) in Washington, D.C., to survey the attitudes of approximately 20 New England small business owners on issues of energy consumption, energy efficiency, and long-term energy planning for their businesses. On December 6 and 7, the students traveled to Capitol Hill to present their research findings to key decision makers and groups in Washington, including staffers from the offices of Senator John Kerry (MA), Senator Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Sen

Bentley female students were on hand to meet mentors from the Network of Executive Women (NEW) at the second annual kick-off event for the NEW Horizons College Mentoring Program, held this fall at the Marriot Hotel in Newton, Mass.

The NEW Horizons Mentoring Group aims to create a mentoring program that is sustainable and provides value to the student, the mentor and the consumer packaged goods and retail industry. This year the program has doubled in the number of mentees and now includes MBA students.

Bentley semi-finalists Shaun Boedicker and Puja Shah

One of the four Bentley teams that competed in the Eastern Regional Moot Tournament of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association (AMCA) in November advanced to the national tournament slated for January 2010 in New Orleans. The advancing team of Bentley seniors Puja Shah and Shaun Boedicker was among 40 teams that competed in the regional competition. The Bentley team of senior Monil Kothari and junior Will Markow has been placed on a reserve list of teams at the nationals.

Bentley University Professor Richard Cleary received the Howard Eves Award from the Northeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The award was presented on November 17 at the 55th Annual Fall Sectional Meeting held at Providence College in Rhode Island.

Bentley University professor Pierre Berthon's current research received the Best Paper Award on the Marketing Strategy Track of the 2010 Australia and New Zealand Marketing Academy Conference (ANZMAC).  Berthon co-wrote the paper "Creative Consumers: Awareness, Attitude & Action - Instrument & Preliminary Results" with Colin Campbell (Simon Frazer University), Leyland Pitt (Simon Frazer University) and Ian McCarthy (Simon Frazer University).  The award was presented at the annual conference held at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand from November 30 to December 2,

Bentley University Associate Professor of Economics Dhaval Dave was appointed Gibbons Research Professor of Economics. During the three year professorship, Dave will pursue research projects that investigate the intersection of economic and financial factors, individuals' risk-taking through various modes, and outcomes or behaviors related to health and human capital.

Bentley University won the national title at the seventh annual College Fed Challenge held at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. on November 30, 2010. Bentley placed first among teams from Lafayette College, Northwestern University, Rutgers University at Newark, and Virginia Commonwealth University. The finals were held in the Boardroom at the Board of Governors as the capstone to district competitions.

In the recently released College Sustainability Report Card 2011, an independent evaluation of sustainability in campus operations and endowment practices published by the Sustainable Endowments Institute, a Cambridge-based nonprofit organization, Bentley scored B+.   

Bentley Assistant Professor of Geology David Szymanski was elected chair of the Geological Society of America (GSA) Geology and Public Policy Committee for a one-year term that will begin in July 2011. The announcement was made at the GSA annual meeting recently held in Denver, CO. He is currently serving as chair-elect for 2010-2011.

The Bentley Police Department has joined forces with the Waltham Police Department for the 9th annual holiday toy drive for local area families in need. The program runs through December 20.

Donations of new, unwrapped, non-violent gifts for a boy or girl between the ages of one and 16 may be dropped off at the Bentley University Police Station lobby. Gift cards and cash donations will be accepted and converted to gift cards for distribution to the families.
