Sociology professor Anne Rawls was named a recipient of the 2022 Oliver Cromwell Cox Book Award for anti-racist scholarship by the American Sociological Association (ASA) Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities (SREM). Rawls was recognized for her 2020 book “Tacit Racism,” which explores how racism is coded into the everyday social expectations of Americans.  

This marks the third consecutive honor for Rawls’ book, which also received the 2022 Scholarly Achievement Award (Book Division) from the North Central Sociological Association and the 2021 Charles Horton Cooley Award from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction.

The Boston Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) hosted its annual awards dinner on the Bentley campus April 14. During the event, FEI announced its 2022 Academic Awards recipients, which included two Bentley students: Haley Carangelo ’22 received an Outstanding Graduating Senior Recognition Award and Alon Yacovi ’23 was named a Junior Scholarship Award recipient. The pair were accompanied by Senior Lecturer in Finance Trevor Larkan, Bentley’s FEI faculty liaison.

The Bentley chapter of DECA — an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management — participated in the 2022 DECA International Career Development Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, in early April. Two teams of Bentley students advanced to the finals of the Corporate Finance and Financial Statement Analysis categories, placing among the top 10 collegiate teams in the nation for each competitive event. Congratulations to participating team members Bader Abu Hiljeh ’21 MSF ’22, Spencer Poore ’21 MSF ’22Josh Bertumen ’23 MSF ’24, Ward Doornbos ’24 and Conner Martins ’24 and their faculty advisers from the Management department: Raymond Guillette, adjunct assistant professor; James McCormack, senior lecturer and assistant chair; and Susan Vroman, lecturer.

Fred Ledley, M.D., professor of Management and Natural and Applied Sciences and director of Bentley’s Center for Integration of Science and Industry, was a featured speaker at AcademyHealth’s 2002 National Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., on April 8. He participated in a National Pharmaceutical Council-sponsored panel discussion, “Drug Price Regulation Trade-offs: Real or Imagined,” sponsored by the National Pharmaceutical Council, where he shared insights gleaned from his recent research indicating consumer affordability isn’t a barrier to pharmaceutical innovation. Professor Ledley was also honored with a Presidential Citation from the American Head and Neck Society during the 2022 AHNS Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas, from April 27-28. In presenting the award, AHNS President Bert O’Malley recognized Ledley for “your contributions to our field, and for your support and friendship.”
