The Howard A. Winer ‘58 Lab for Economics, Accounting and Finance (LEAF)
Mission of the LEAF
The goal of the LEAF is to provide a welcoming and inclusive learning environment where students can seek academic support for their accounting, economics and finance courses.
Here, students will find peer tutors knowledgeable in accounting, economics and finance, ready to help and prepare them to thrive in the Bentley business curriculum.
The LEAF is designed to allow students hands-on experience by integrating technology into their areas of study. It’s also a collaborative space to work together on group projects and case studies. Additionally, students will find peer-led tutoring for the subject areas covered by the lab.
The LEAF provides the following core services, either in its physical space or remotely:
-
Peer tutoring services and online resources for accounting, economics and finance courses at Bentley.
-
A modern physical space for students to take advantage of the latest state-of-the-art software relevant for finance and accounting students, that is used in conjunction with The Trading Room.
-
A sense of community for students enrolled in accounting, economics and finance exploring the interrelated nature of these dynamic areas of business.
The LEAF has networked individual workstations plus group workstations with 42-inch display screens, and a conference room with a Smartboard.
About LEAF
The Howard A. Winer Learning Lab (LEAF) is located in Lindsay 21. Many of Bentley's top economics, accounting and finance majors work in the LEAF, providing individual tutoring services to assist students through the sometimes challenging areas of economics, accounting and finance.
Our Objectives
The objectives of the LEAF are:
- To integrate technology into current and developing courses
- To help students become the "whole business person."
Whole Business Person
The LEAF helps the student in becoming the "whole business person" by integrating teaching materials with other Bentley departments to improve communication skills and interdisciplinary cases so that students learn how to develop and communicate meaningful accounting information
The lab assistants frequently work with student groups as they put their final touches on PowerPoint presentations or Excel spreadsheets.
