No, due to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions on event occupancy, the 2021 Commencement ceremony will be held virtually.
When Commencement plans were announced in September, we noted that Massachusetts would need to be in Phase IV of the state's reopening plan with vaccination widely available to the public. With the state currently in Phase III Step 1, the timeline for entering Phase IV is too uncertain to move forward with an in-person event. Additionally, we expect that many of Massachusetts’s safe travel guidelines will remain in place through the spring, making a trip to Waltham with appropriate advance quarantine particularly difficult for off-campus students and visiting families. We are announcing this now to ensure families are able to cancel any travel and hotel plans and recoup any associated costs.
The Commencement planning team has worked closely with members of the student body including the senior class cabinet to ensure the virtual ceremony appropriately honors the many achievements of the Class of 2021. At their thoughtful suggestion, the event has been moved a week later to May 8 to ensure students have the chance to return home to celebrate with their family and friends in a safe environment.
The virtual event link will be emailed to all graduates in the week before the ceremony as well as on the morning of the ceremony. The homepage of bentley.edu will also livestream the event on May 8. After the ceremony is over, a link of the recorded ceremony will be shared with all graduates and their families.
We encourage all graduates to invite their families and friends to view.
Yes, the ceremony will be recorded and available soon after the livestream.
Degrees will be conferred during the virtual ceremony on Saturday, May 8.
Diplomas will be mailed by a third-party vendor a few weeks after the May 8 ceremony.
All graduates will receive a mortarboard and commemorative tassel compliments of the university. If you would like to purchase a gown and hood, details for ordering will be shared soon.
Yes, each graduate will be properly recognized. More details will be shared closer to the date.
