Two teams of Bentley University sophomores placed second and third in the 2012 Price Chopper Ultimate Innovation Competition. The program challenges undergraduate and graduate college students to develop an original, creative, and innovative concept that would be relevant and meaningful to the northeast supermarket retailer.

Bentley University seniors Carl Forziati, Emily Maher, and Aly Ostler, and junior Dylan Sumiskum finished first in the nation for the 2011/2012 iOme Challenge Money Smart Week video contest, which this year focused on how to improve the savings rate in the U.S

The Bentley Service-Learning Center announced three faculty grant awards: Joan Atlas, Skip Hachey and Liz LeDoux. The development grants are for $1,000 each for community-based projects. All three grant winners will offer faculty seminars on their projects during the course of the spring and fall semesters.

Alternative energy was on the agenda for a group of students who visited nuclear power plants and met with various agencies in France during Spring Break. The 10-day tour included stops in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Lyons, Brest and Paris.

Bentley University’s Develop U community prevention and outreach initiative received national recognition with a Silver Excellence Award from NASPA–Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession. Under the category “Student Health, Wellness, Counseling, and Related,” the award was announced at the NASPA annual conference in March.

Bentley University students Anthony Bella ‘13 and Tèa Trebicka ‘14 were among 10 college students throughout the U.S. selected to join the Liberty Mutual Responsible Scholars™ Community Project team in Los Angeles during winter break. January 2 to 8, the group headed west to assist the Angeles National Forest Rangers with ongoing recovery efforts stemming from recent natural disasters.

Research by Assistant Dean of the McCallum Graduate School George Thompson was recently published in the College Student Affairs Journal (Volume 29, No. 2). The study, “Efficacy of Orientation for New Student Affairs Professionals,” explores the critical role of workplace orientation in the retention of new employees in the field of higher education and student affairs.

A team of Bentley graduate students was one of six to make it to the final round of the National Black MBA Association case competition in Atlanta, GA.

Bentley’s team -- Patrick Bates, Brandon Cooley, Gary Morton and Jennifer James – competed against 22 other teams from schools such as MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Vanderbilt University and Florida A & M.
