Pierce Butler Creative Writing Prize

Seven students participated in the department's Pierce Butler Prize in Creative Writing reading on April 14th. The stories were nominated by faculty in the courses LIT 311 (Creative Writing: Fiction) and LIT 312 (Creative Writing: Drama/Screenwriting). Named for retired professor Pierce Butler, the award was jointly presented to: Nathan McCracken ("The Raft") and Steven Kauvaka ("Walden")

Other winners include: 

  • 2nd place winner: Kereen Soares ("Fool's Gold")
  • 3rd place winner: Jared Forrest ("Forecast")
  • Runners up:
    • Emily Sweet ("Bella Vista AR")
    • Bella DeSouza ("When One Door Closes")
    • Julia Bartow ("Green Eyed Grief")

The winners received $150, second place $100 and third place $50.
