FAQs from Faculty

BrightspaceHere are some of the frequent queries from faculty we have solved over the past few months.

Can you think of something that should be in this list? Let us know at atc.bentley.edu.

A student is reporting they cannot see my course in the My Courses Widget.

Please confirm the student is enrolled in your course via the Teaching and Advising widget in Workday.  Workday is the most accurate and up to date source for your course roster.  If a student recently registered, it can take up to 24 hours for them to gain access to the course site in Brightspace.

Students see my course in the My Courses widget, but it is showing as greyed out.

By default, courses are set to be made available to students 7 days prior to the start of each semester, unless you otherwise adjust the start date in the course offering information settings.  Until the official start date of the course, students will see the course listed in their view, however it will appear greyed out.  The same will apply when a course site has an end date applied.  Students will continue to see the course listed, but it will remain greyed out and inaccessible to a student.

I want to have a course site that I can use to practice some of the tools in Brightspace.

Bentley instructors can place a one-time request for a sandbox course site to be used in Brightspace. A sandbox course is an empty course where you can experiment with Brightspace features and functions without affecting your actual courses. The sandbox course will be your very own and can be used as a place to experiment without impacting any real students. Your access to this course site will not expire, you can continue to use it from semester to semester.  Click here to request a sandbox.

How do I enroll/unenroll a learner in my course site?

All enrollment updates are done automatically via a backend feed from Workday that runs 2x a day.  Please allow up to 24 hours for a student to be enrolled/unenrolled from your course site.  The ATC team does not manually enroll or unenroll learners.

When will my new course site for the upcoming semester be available in Brightspace?

All courses are automatically created via an integration from Workday, 8 weeks (about 2 months) prior to the start of each semester.

What's the Brightspace equivalent for each Blackboard course site feature?

Refer to this convenient terminology comparison guide.
