Although higher education institutions have been under scrutiny regarding return on investment and adequate preparation for a successful life after graduation, Bentley’s 2013 graduates have good news to report: 98 percent of the responding class is employed or attending graduate school.

Business ethics issues are on the table as Bentley University students gather for the 17th annual Bentley Business Bowl (BBB) on February 22. Student teams will analyze cases that present ethical, business, accounting or auditing dilemmas.

As part of the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, Bentley University students are offering free tax return preparation for residents of Waltham, Mass., and surrounding communities through April 10, with the exception of Spring Break, March 8 to 16.

Bentley University has appointed Phillip Knutel as Chief Information Officer. The 15-year Bentley veteran will now serve as the principal technology leader, overseeing a $19M budget and more than 100 staff from seven IT units.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a South African social-rights activist, once said: “We inhabit a universe that is characterized by diversity.” Cultures, religions, political systems, businesses, landscapes, climate or seasons — we can find diversity in all of them and the list could go on and on. Diversity creates contrasts and contrasts make life exciting; some people even say contrasts make life possible. A friend of mine mentioned that he finds his evening beer tastes better after a hard working day.

During the biotech IPO boom in 2000, a lot of people made money; but very few products ever made it into the hands of consumers. Research by Bentley University’s Laura McNamee and Fred Ledley credits the problem to poor business models that have a glaring gap between science and business.

Hanson will share his research regarding the top ethics issues that professionals experience during the course of their career as he presents: “The Six Ethical Dilemmas Every Professional Faces” at the Verizon Lectureship in Business Ethics at Bentley University on February 3 at 3:30 p.m.
