Scholars from around the world gathered at Bentley University for the Dewald Roode Information Security Workshop 2010 IFIP WG 8.11/11/13, in October. Aimed at advancing the research discipline of information systems security through the creation, dissemination, and preservation of well-formed research, the highly competitive workshop is held annually in locations around the globe; the inaugural event was held in Cape Town, South Africa in 2009.

Bentley Executive Education hosted a group of 16 managers and executives from Stellenbosch University in South Africa for a one-week executive education study trip focusing on socially responsible business management practice in September 2010. The program included lectures by professors Tony Buono, Joel Deichmann, Raj Sisodia and Chip Wiggins, with visits to three local companies with a history of socially conscious management practice -- Jordan's Furniture, Trillium Investments, and National Grid.

Students and faculty at Bentley University, in cooperation with the Bentley Service-Learning Center, have launched an anti-bullying campaign that extends from their Waltham, Mass. community into local schools and nearby communities. Designed to be run by students, the One Goal, One Community: Moving Beyond Bullying and Empowering for Life initiative is focused on educating community members and soliciting their commitment to help change behaviors and put an end to bullying.

Workshop Teaches Undergraduate and Graduate Women How to Build a Network

The Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) hosts “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: It Starts On Campus,” a workshop for undergraduate and graduate women on building your network on campus and beyond. The program will be held Monday, October 18, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room at LaCava Center. Registration is required.

The Bentley University Center for Marketing Technology and the Bentley Marketing Department host Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, on Tuesday, September 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. in Koumantzelis Auditorium.

Bentley University recently launched "Project Haiti: The Redevelopment," a special fundraising campaign for Haiti disaster relief following the tragic earthquake that hit the country on January 12, 2010. Led by a committee of dedicated Bentley undergraduate and graduate students, and supported by Bentley faculty, staff and administrators, Project Haiti will raise money to go directly to aid the people most affected by the Haiti earthquake.

The Bentley Microfinance Group will host speakers from around the world at  the Global Microfinance Summit held at Bentley University on Sunday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. , The day-long event will feature representatives from organizations such as Women’s World Bank, ACCION USA, MIT, the American India Foundation, and the William J.

On March 25, Bentley will host La Quinzaine de la Francophonie, a celebration of Francophone culture. Samba Gadjigo, professor of French at Mount Holyoke College, will present "Ousmane Sembene: Man as Culture," a discussion about the life and work of famous Senegalese filmmaker, Ousmane Sembene. A film screening of Sembene's acclaimed Senegalese film, Xala, will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Adamian Room 143, followed by Professor Gadjigo's lecture from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (in English).

The American College Heath Association (ACHA) recently named Geraldine (Gerri) Taylor as recipient of the E. Dean Lovett Award for 2010 for her contributions to the development of an exemplary college health program. This award will be presented at ACHA's 2010 Annual Meeting on June 4, 2010, in Philadelphia.

The Corporation for National and Community Service honored Bentley University with a place on the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll -- the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. Bentley is among 700 colleges and universities to be honored.
