Strategic Initiatives for Racial Justice

Responsible Cabinet Member: Maureen Forrester, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer

2021-22 Commitments

Creation of Safe Spaces

In support of the Racial Justice Task Force recommendation for more safe spaces for communities of color on campus, work with an external architectural firm to identify options for physical safe spaces and symbolic spaces that more accurately represent our multiracial community. Ensure that the results of this review are considered within the overall budgeting and funding of capital improvements for FY23 and drive the execution of the approved initiatives through Facilities Management.

Enhance Supplier Diversity Program

Create a supplier diversity plan that monitors and actively works to increase our spend with minority and women-owned firms by proactively partnering with The Boston Consortium as it undertakes an initiative that will enable the sourcing of more diverse pools for major contracting categories.

2020-21 Commitment

Improve Diversity of University Suppliers

We will assess the diversity of our current supplier base and build a plan to meaningfully improve its diversity. We will include in this plan an effort to understand what our major suppliers are doing within their organizations to support the efforts of diversity and inclusion and what steps they take to ensure those working on our campus are appropriately trained to engage with us according to our values.

Update: Throughout fall 2020, the division successfully assessed the diversity of the university's supplier base, building a purposeful plan to continue to broaden diversity and inclusion procurement strategies and policies in the first quarter of calendar year 2021.
