Looking to return to Bentley to complete your degree after an absence of more than 5 years?

Students who seek to return to Bentley to complete their degree after an absence of more than five years must re-apply for admission through the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Students are encouraged to submit a transfer application and fulfill the transfer application requirements by their respective deadlines.  Due to changing degree requirements, the undergraduate admission staff will determine which courses taken at Bentley (and elsewhere) will be accepted for credit under the current degree requirements for the term which the student applies. Credit evaluations using the established transfer credit policies will be completed after a student has been potentially readmitted to Bentley and a maximum of 60 credits from all sources combined can be awarded. Courses taken towards major requirements will not be eligible for credit.

Transfer Student FAQs

You’ve got questions about transferring to Bentley. We’ve got answers.

Who is considered a transfer student?

Those with a high school diploma or GED credential who have completed at least 15 semester credits at a college or university after high school graduation — or who are pursuing this at the time of their application to Bentley — must apply as a transfer student.

When will I be notified of an admission decision?

The Admission Committee begins reviewing candidates shortly before the application deadline. You will be notified of an admission decision on a rolling basis, starting after the application deadline.

How can I check my application to make sure everything was received?

You can log onto your BentleyConnect account to check the status of your application. Please note that we require official transcripts from all secondary schools attended, along with confirmation of graduation, as well as official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. You will receive an email with your user name for BentleyConnect after your application is received.

Is financial assistance available for transfer students?

Bentley is committed to assisting transfer students and their families meet the financial obligations of a Bentley University education. Need-based aid is available for eligible U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. To apply for assistance, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and applicants who wish to be considered for Bentley need-based funding must also complete the CSS Profile. Visit the Office of Financial Assistance website for more information.

How will I know which courses will transfer to Bentley?

Admitted students will receive a preliminary transfer credit evaluation shortly after receiving an acceptance letter. The evaluation will list all courses that Bentley accepts, along with an equivalency designation. All academic work is evaluated on a course-by-course basis. For more information, please see our Transfer Credit Policies.

When am I required to declare my major?

Applicants are admitted to Bentley University, as opposed to a specific academic program or department. Those entering as transfer students are expected to declare a major by the end of their sophomore year. Admitted students with advanced sophomore standing declare an academic major soon after entering the university.

Can I study abroad if I transfer to Bentley?

There are many education abroad programs that you can pursue, including short-term options. Consult with an adviser early in your studies at Bentley to begin course selection and the other elements of planning.

Is housing available for transfer students?

Generally, on-campus housing is available for transfer students, provided that you have requested housing on the Common Application and all appropriate housing application forms and the enrollment deposit are received by specified deadlines.

Can I have a car on campus?

Transfer students who enter with at least 10 transferable courses (i.e., 30 credits) are permitted to have a car on campus, as are all commuter students.

Is there a commuter association on campus?

Yes. Although a small percentage of Bentley students commute, this association receives a great deal of support on campus. The commuter student lounge is a popular hangout for students to meet and study.

Are orientation programs available for transfer students?

Bentley offers a transfer orientation program for incoming students. Prior to this event, transfer students are invited to a registration program to select courses before the academic semester begins.

How do I re-enroll at Bentley to complete my degree if I have been away more than five years?

Students who seek to return to Bentley to complete their degree after an absence of more than five years must re-apply for admission through the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Students are encouraged to submit a transfer application and fulfill the transfer application requirements by their respective deadlines.  Due to changing degree requirements, the undergraduate admission staff will determine which courses taken at Bentley (and elsewhere) will be accepted for credit under the current degree requirements for the term which the student applies.
