Computer Information Systems

In this hands-on major, you'll analyze, design and test solutions, and we give you space to practice what you learn in class. Our Computer Information Systems (CIS) Sandbox is an on-campus learning lab stocked with software for you to test drive and collaborate with peers.

The CIS degree will equip you with the knowledge and understanding of information technology (IT) capabilities and implications, as well as with competency in “best-of-breed” methodologies and tools for information systems development. Graduates are prepared to excel in any of the emerging and varied roles of the IT professional: systems analyst, application developer, systems integrator, IT liaison, end-user support, network manager, vendor representative and technical support specialist.

Data-Driven Decision Making (CS 160)

Students will develop foundational competencies related to data management that allow them to critically analyze complex problems using a variety of data sources and tools and to effectively present their ideas to others. Students will understand how data can support effective problem solving, how data are stored and managed, how to structure data for analysis, and analyze data and present the data effectively to various stakeholders.

STEM-designated major

Bentley’s Computer Information Systems degree program has a major code that is classified by the U.S. government as “STEM designated.” Subject to USCIS discretion, international students on F-1 visas may apply to USCIS for a 24-month extension of the standard 12-month Optional Practical Training (OPT) period, which if approved would result in a total of 36 months of U.S. work authorization to intern or work in the U.S. to gain experiential training after completing their degree.
