2023-2024 Holiday Schedule

Bentley Observes the Following Holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Patriots’ Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day
  • Day Before Thanksgiving
  • Thanksgiving
  • Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

In addition, the University generally closes between December 26 and December 31 for Winter Break.  Employees are paid for those days at their regular rate of pay for any hours they would have otherwise been scheduled to work on those days.

The dates on which these holidays and Winter Break will be observed each year are posted below.

Union employees should consult their collective bargaining agreement for a list of holidays and provisions regarding holiday pay.

Employees Who Work on a Holiday

In addition to their holiday pay as indicated above, non-exempt staff who work on a holiday will also be paid for any hours worked on a holiday at their straight time rate, or overtime rate if the hours worked on a holiday result in the employee working more than 40 hours that work week. I.e., non-exempt employees will be paid “double time” for hours worked on a holiday (or two and a half times their regular rate of pay if overtime is involved). Exempt employees who work on a holiday may schedule a compensatory day off with approval of their supervisor.  Employees must get advance approval from their supervisors before working on a holiday.

Public Safety Union:

Employees working a four and two schedule will thereby be receiving an additional 18 days off per year and shall be entitled to the following paid Holidays:

  • Independence Day

  • Labor Day

  • Thanksgiving Day

  • Christmas Day

  • Memorial Day

Facilities Union:

The following legal holidays in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts shall be observed as paid holidays for full time employees:

  • New Year’s Day Veterans’ Day**

  • Martin Luther King’s Thanksgiving Day

  • Birthday Day after Thanksgiving

  • Patriots’ Day Day

  • Memorial Day Christmas Day

  • Juneteenth Day before or day after

  • Independence Day Christmas Day*

  • Labor Day Day before or day after

  • Columbus Day New Year’s Day*

*Exact day to be selected by Bentley.

**In July of each year, the Union will vote on whether this holiday will be swapped for paid time off or for another mutually agreed upon day.
