Success Story Of Alexia McCleod

Tell us the story of how you successfully landed the offer:

I was recruited by the company at the National Black MBA Conference in September 2017 as a summer intern. After two interviews, I received the internship offer. After successful completion of my internship, I received a full-time offer to join after I graduate.

In my initial interview at the conference, I was very confident due to the skills I learned during that semester in GCDI. I had just learned how to successfully deliver my elevator pitch, something I had struggled with for quite some time, so when asked to "Tell me about yourself" in my initial interview I was very confident and I believe that this successful start gave me the confidence to have a great interview making a good impression on my interviewer.

Advice to Fellow Students:

My advice is to be prepared and know your audience while you are looking for a job. For example, when going to a conference, do research ahead of time to find the employers that have the roles/opportunities that you are looking for. Prepare yourself to meet the recruiters and express your interest in the specific opportunities in which they currently offer. This is what I did in order to get my internship with Eaton. I knew I was looking for opportunities to learn/ grow within Human Resources so a Human Resources Leadership Development program was ideal for me. After doing research the night before the National Black MBA Conference, I knew which employers at the conference offered a Human Resources Leadership Development Program and those are the employers I focused on and Eaton was one of the three.
